Pavan and Humana-Paredes Extend Podium Streak

Olsztyn, Poland (July 23, 2017): Canada’s Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, ON) and Melissa Humana-Paredes (Toronto, ON) added to their 2017 World Tour medal count today – this time with a silver at the Warmia Mazury Olsztyn Open in Poland.

This medal is added to bronze (Gstaad), a silver (Rio) and a gold (Porec) so far this year on the World Tour.

Today, the Canadian pair lost to the top-seeded Talita and Larissa 2-1 (20-22, 21-18, 16-14) in 50 minutes.

“It’s super disappointing coming so close to gold and not walking away with it, but we are showing improvements each week, which is very promising…. It was a week filled with hard-fought battles; I’m proud that we were able to persevere the way we did. We are definitely looking forward to Word Champs (in Austria) next week, can’t wait!” Melissa Humana-Paredes

Sunday’s win in the steady rain marked the second win this season for the Brazilians over Pavan and Humana-Paredes as Talita and Larissa defeated the Canadians two weeks ago in the Gstaad Major semi-final in Switzerland.  Canada beat Nicole Branagh/Kerri Walsh Jennings of the United States in the semifinals.

Talita and Larissa shared the $20,000 first-place prize while the Canadians split $16,000 for second-place.

Canada’s Sam Pedlow and Sam Schachter finished as the top Canadian men’s team at ninth.

Canadian rankings:

Wilkerson/Bansley 9th
Gordon/Saxton 17th

Pedlow/Schachter 9th
Plantinga/O’Gorman 25th
Saxton/Schalk 25th
