During the best of times and during challenging times we need to be mindful of the impact of training. This lecture discusses the states of overtraining, overreaching, undertraining, detraining and optimal training. The specific foci are the physiological, performance and psychological consequences of overtraining and detraining in athletes. Practical application and use of specific monitoring tools are also discussed.
