Maddy Schmidt is a member of the National Kayak Sprint Team!

Maddy was raised in Ottawa and her home club is the Rideau Canoe Club! She came 3rd at the Junior World Championships in 2013, and has competed at the U23 World Championships as well as Senior World Cups.  Her first race was in 2004 and she’s been in love with the sport ever since!

Accomplissements:

Maddy was a Gold medalist at the Pan American Championships held on Dartmouth, NS on September 13 -16 in both Senior Women’s K1 (1 person kayak) 500m & Senior Women’s K4 500m with teammates Lisa Bissonnette, Michelle Russell and OHPSI alumni Courtney Stott.  Maddy’s performances helped Team Canada finish as the overall regatta champion against 15 other countries.

Pour le mois d’août, nous avons nommé Stephen Gogolev, qui a récemment remporté l’or lors de son premier Grand Prix junior à Bratislava du 22 au 25 août, et qui participe actuellement à l’épreuve du quatrième Grand Prix junior à Vancouver du 12 au 15 septembre.

Âgé de 13 ans et résidant à Toronto en Ontario, Stephen est devenu un athlète ciblé de l’ICSO par Skate Ontario en 2015. Stephen s’entraîne au club de cricket de Toronto aux côtés des entraîneurs de calibre mondial Lee Barkell et Brian Oser. Il reçoit également du soutien grâce à un suivi de son programme d’entraînement et de sa santé, effectués par Meghan Buttle et Elton Fernandez de l’ICSO.

Bien que le jeune âge de Stephen l’empêche de participer au Grand Prix sénior pendant encore deux ans, soit un an avant les Jeux olympiques de Beijing, il restera concentré sur l’élaboration de ses programmes d’entraînement junior et sénior pour demeurer dans la course à tous les niveaux.

 

Accomplissements:

La performance de Stephen à Bratislava lui a permis de devenir le premier Canadien de tout groupe d’âge à exécuter un lutz quadruple lors d’une compétition. Il a également réussi trois sauts quadruples, pour un total de 226,13 points qui lui ont valu la médaille d’or devant la Japonaise Mitsuki Sumotot qui a obtenu 210,31 points.

For July, we have nominated Grace VandenBroek, who recently qualified and competed at two major championships, the U23 World Championships and Junior (U19) World Championships.

Grace was identified by Carol Love in 2015 within the Row to Podium program supported by Row ONTARIO and Rowing Canada Aviron.

Today, Grace’s daily training environment remains in Peterborough with Carol as her coach at the newly announced RCA Next Gen training Centre. The training center is a three way partnership between Rowing Canada Aviron, Trent University and the Peterborough Rowing Club with SSSM support from CSIO

In 2017, Grace, alongside BC native Kieanna Stephens - Winner of the 2016 RBC Training Ground Final, rowed to a Bronze Medal in the Jr Women’s Double at the 2017 Junior World Rowing Championships in Trakai, Lithuania.

“It has been exciting to see Grace’s development from her first strokes on the Otonabee River to her first international starts, states Carol Love, Lead, RCA Next Gen Hub Coach. “Grace was identified through Rowing Canada’s Row to Podium program at a high school Talent Identification visit. Investing time to develop her talents has been a work in progress and her future in the sport is bright.”

B Final 2nd Place - Women’s Single at the Junior (U19) World Championships in Racice, Czech Republic – August 8-12.

Biographie:

Quinton Disera is a XCO mountain bike racer, currently racing for the Norco Factory Team and Team Canada on the World Cup Circuit. Over the years he has been with the Ontario Cycling Association teams and the OHPSI program, helping provide training and support to succeed. Previously, he placed 17th at the 2017 UCI MTB World U23 Championships and 4th in the 2017 UCI MTB World Cup.

Accomplissements:

Quinton, a U23 cyclist, won the Elite Men’s division of the Canada Cup #3 at Hardwood Ski & Bike.

Biographie:

Nick has been paddling for 10 years and currently trains with Balmy Beach Canoe Club (Toronto, ON) with coach Peter Martinek and the National Team coached by Fred Jobin. Previously, he placed 4th at the 2017 U23 World Championships in the K4-500m.
