Dr. Ira Jacobs to Depart Canadian Sport Institute Ontario’s Board Of Directors

For Immediate Release

TORONTO (July 5, 2022) – Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO) would like to announce that Dr. Ira Jacobs will be departing the CSIO Board of Directors as recognized at the CSIO Annual General Meeting held last week. His departure comes as the University of Toronto and Sinai Health announce the establishment of its new Tanenbaum Institute for Science in Sport, at which Dr. Jacobs will be Director.

Dr. Jacobs joined the CSIO Board of Directors in 2020 and brought a wealth of knowledge and insight to his role. A distinguished exercise physiologist, researcher, and professor, he has spent much of his career focused on applied human physiology research including work with the Canadian government’s Human Sciences Research Centre where he was Chief Scientist. Dr. Jacobs is currently a professor of the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of Toronto, where he also holds a cross-appointment in the Faculty of Medicine’s Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology. He has also held numerous volunteer and board positions throughout his career, including as a Board Member at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.

The mandate of the new Tanenbaum Institute for Science in Sport is to apply the scientific method to research in support of high performance athletes including professional, non-professional, and para athletes, in the areas of sport science and sport medicine. CSIO looks forward to future opportunities to partner with the Tanenbaum Institute for Science in Sport for the continued advancement in the field and betterment for all high performance athletes.

The organization would like to thank Dr. Jacobs for his dedication and contribution to CSIO throughout his time on the Board of Directors.
