Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) is a syndrome which can adversely affect the health and performance of athletes, both female and male, of all ages. It is characterized by a range of negative health and performance outcomes that result from prolonged, long-term low energy availability (LEA). These outcomes can include impaired hormone function, reduction in bone health and menstrual dysfunction in females. It is commonly reported in athletes in endurance sports however RED-S can impact athletes across all sports. You are invited to join Ashley Armstrong, Registered Dietitian, as she shares a background on RED-S and insights on how to identify, prevent and treat the syndrome from the perspective of sport nutrition.
