Ontario’s Quest for Gold program is helping improve the performance of the province’s athletes as they train and prepare to represent Canada at national and international events.
This year 1,286 athletes will receive $6.4 million through the program, which supports athletes’ performances at the highest level by:
– Providing funding to help them pursue sports training while fulfilling their academic goals
– Increasing access to high-performance coaching
– Enhancing training and competitive opportunities
– Encouraging athletes to stay, live and train in Ontario
The Ontario government has also provided $3.36 million to the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO) and other sport organizations this year as a part of the Quest for Gold program to provide enhanced coaching, training and competitive opportunities to athletes and their coaches.
Giving Ontario’s athletes more opportunities to succeed supports the government’s efforts to create a healthier province through sport and active recreation. It is also part of the government’s four-part economic plan to build Ontario up by investing in people’s talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives, and building a secure savings plan so everyone can afford to retire.
“The Ontario government is committed to providing the tools, resources and financial support that high-performance athletes and coaches need to excel at international competitions. Our government is proud to support Ontario athletes as they strive to achieve excellence in sport at all levels of play. We look forward to cheering on all our athletes as they go for gold at the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games and beyond.”
